Abstract
muscle preparations, contractile response to cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) was investigated. In addition the effect of CSF on the contractile response of these preparations to a few smooth muscle-contracting drugs was investigated.
2. Among the tortoise intestine, guinea-pig ileum, rat ileum, guinea pig aorta, rat portal vein, guinea-pig vas deferens and rat vas deferens, the former three preparations reacted with contraction to CSF.
3. The contraction of the above three preparations by CSF were not affected by methysergide and indomethacin.
4. In the presence of CSF the contraction of rat portal vein, guinea-pig aorta, rat vas deferens and guinea-pig vas deferens by norepinephrine (NE) were potentiated but the contraction by 5-hydroxytry ptamine and acetylcholine were not affected.
5. The above results indicate that CSF contains. some unknown substance (s) to produce contraction of intestinal preparations and potentate the contraction of vascular and vas deferens preparations by NE. These preparations seem to be useful for studies of unknown substance(s) in CSF of the patients with vasospasm.
